Background: 5-Amino-1MQ (5-amino-1-methylquinolinium) is a small molecule (not a peptide) that functions as a selective inhibitor of the enzyme NNMT (nicotinamide N-methyltransferase). NNMT in fat cells is a key regulator of energy metabolism: overactive NNMT can deplete cellular NAD⁺ and slow fat metabolism. By inhibiting NNMT, 5-Amino-1MQ aims to boost NAD⁺ levels and rev up fat burning in adipose tissue.
